The game started at a fast pace with Whittington looking the most likely to break the deadlock in the early stages but they could not find a breakthrough despite a succession of corners and some threatening runs down the flanks.

Leek Town, backed by a large contingent of supporters, settled into the game and took the lead after a defensive mix up in the 16th minute allowed Kieron Millward to tap home from close range and put them 1-0 ahead.

Leek were on the front foot for a spell and could have extended their lead before the break but Whittington, whilst struggling to create any clear chances at the other end, were defending well and limited Leek’s clear opportunities to increase their lead although keeper Joe Templeton made a fine full length save to deny Liam Davis adding a 2nd for Leek.

The second half was much the same with both sides cancelling each other out in a game being played at a frantic pace and as the half wore on, Whittington pushed forward further to try and take the game to extra-time.

Their best chance came with the final kick off the match as a driven cross from the left avoided all defenders and fell right onto the head of Sam Ford who just failed to get enough on his header and the ball drifted inches wide of the far post.

Congratulations to both sides for providing a competitive and entertaining final and thanks to all at Brocton Football Club for the use of their facilities.
