Silverdale - 2 v 3 - Wednesfield

On  a beautiful evening at Sporting Khalsa’s Aspray Arena ground, both sides came confident of lifting the trophy, and the game promised to be a close encounter on paper and it did not disappoint.

The game got off to a quick start and it was the Silverdale side who broke the deadlock after just 8 minutes when they slotted home to take a 1-0 lead.

Wednesfield pressed hard and tested the goal on a number of occasions, and they were rewarded for their efforts when they duly converted a penalty kick after 33 minutes, levelling the scores heading into the half time interval.

The teams came out for the second half evenly poised, however it was Wednesfield who struck twice within 15 minutes of the restarting, taking them to a quick 3-1 advantage. Silverdale soon struck back though and reduced the scores to 3-2 with 25 minutes to play.

A nervy last 20 minutes saw both teams with good chances, including Silverdale hitting the woodwork twice, however it was not enough to save them as Wednesfield held onto their slender lead and the final whistle confirmed that they were the 2016 U16 County Champions.

We would like to extend our thanks to Sporting Khalsa FC for our use of their excellent facilities and for all those in attendance that will surely have enjoyed an exciting game.
