MSA Liberty Ladies: Flying The Flag For Staffordshire
MSA Liberty Ladies are currently Staffordshire’s only PAN Disability Ladies team within the county.
The team has been running for around 3 years as a female only team.
The ladies team were first inspired to participate at a regional event held between Staffordshire, Birmingham & Leicester where for the first time they were able to play as a Women’s specific team against other pan disability Women’s teams across the region.
The event focused solely on having the opportunity to participate, have fun & socialise within a football environment. Having this opportunity, encouraged the group to go back & begin bespoke Ladies only sessions which has had a huge impact for the Women involved to develop their skills & confidence over the last few years.
MSA Liberty have developed a local link with Nike Sport Champions & are able to access a ladies role model from their local Nike outlet who delivers weekly training sessions for those involved. The team also participate in the Staffordshire Ability Counts League participating in monthly fixtures, however as this is predominantly males, we are always looking to support them with ladies only fixtures with local counties when possible during the season.
The only expectation set on the team is to play as a team and support each other, so regardless of any result the team will always come off smiling as they have just enjoyed the opportunity of participating in competitive fixtures.
Some of the players within the team have said:
‘It means the absolute world to us’
‘It’s about taking part in a team & getting stuck in’
‘It makes me happy & confident’
MSA Liberty ladies, as a team & as individuals have grown hugely in confidence & ability over the last few years but importantly want to encourage more opportunities locally to enable females the chance to participate like they do.
