COUNTY YOUTH CHALLENGE CUP MATCH REPORT

The County Youth Challenge Cup final saw Burntwood Dragons face off against Blurton Arrows at Brocton’s Silkmore Lane.

The match proved to be an exciting affair, with a new name being etched onto the trophy at the end of the 90 minutes.

Burntwood Dragons took the lead just two minutes into the game, with their number 11 receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty area and unleashing a fierce shot that found the bottom corner of the net. Blurton had a chance to equalise on 14 minutes, but their number 11 failed to hit the target.

The Dragons rattled the crossbar on 17 minutes, as their number 2 hit a powerful shot from just outside the penalty area. Burntwood were then awarded a penalty on 26 minutes, but the Blurton goalkeeper was able to make a fantastic save to keep the score at 1-0.

Burntwood doubled their lead just before half time, as their number 11 mis-hit a cross that caught the Blurton keeper off guard and found the top corner of the net.

The Dragons continued to dominate in the second half, and scored their third goal on 69 minutes, with their number 15 unleashing a left-footed volley that left the Blurton keeper with no chance.

Despite a few chances from Blurton, the game was sealed in the final minutes of the match as Burntwood scored their fourth and final goal. The fourth official indicated a minimum of 3 minutes added time, and Burntwood made good use of the time as their number 2 cut in on his right foot and beat the keeper at his near post.

In the end, Burntwood Dragons emerged victorious with a 4-0 win over Blurton Arrows. The new champions had put on an impressive display of attacking football, and thoroughly deserved their win in the County Youth Challenge Cup final.
