Match Report: County Youth U16 Sunday Cup
COUNTY YOUTH U16 SUNDAY CUP
In a highly anticipated County Youth U16 Sunday Cup final, neither Madeley White Star nor Leek C.S.O.B. had ever lifted the trophy before.
Leek had an early chance with a free kick from 20-yards out, but the effort sailed well over the bar. Madeley took the lead on 8 minutes as the midfielder chopped inside and finished off the post with his left foot.
Despite Madeley enjoying most of the ball, Leek looked dangerous on the break and had a good chance on 21 minutes with an effort from the edge of the box, but it was saved and held by the Madeley keeper.
Madeley then doubled their lead on 25 minutes after the ball was flicked on well, and the advancing forward slotted the ball past the keeper. They were then denied a third as a great ball to the back post was poked towards goal, but the keeper denied the effort brilliantly.
Leek started the second half brightly and almost clawed one back on 44 minutes after a succession of corners led to good chances, but Madeley stayed strong. They did eventually get a goal on 78 minutes from the penalty spot, but it was too little too late.
The final whistle blew, and it was Madeley White Star who were crowned County Youth U16 Sunday Cup champions for the first time in their history, with a 2-1 victory over Leek C.S.O.B.
