Benefits of Small Sided Games Review

A review of our Coach Development session at Leek Town

On 5th April 2022, Staffordshire FA hosted a Coach Development event in collaboration with England Football Learning around the topic of ‘Benefits of Small Sided Games’.

Over 20 coaches were in attendance for the evening session at Leek Town, delivered by Stacey Miles and Matt Jones from the England Football Learning Team.

The evening included both classroom learning and learning out on the pitch looking at different types of small sided game sessions and what adaptations can be made using the STEP principle in order to suit, number or players, age of players, abilities and more.

A common question heard at training is ‘When are we having a game?’ and this was a key part in the thought process of our small sided games and how can we utilise small sided games to form that part of training that every player wants.

It was a fantastic evening with plenty of discussions, networking between coaches and take-away ideas and thoughts for future sessions.
