FA Women's National League Cup Final Preview: Crawley Wasps Ladies vs Blackburn Rovers

Crawley Wasps and Blackburn Rovers go head-to-head at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium.

Crawley Wasps Ladies and Blackburn Rovers Ladies will be heading to the Pirelli Stadium on Sunday 28 April to contest the FA Women’s National League Cup Final.

The game itself sees a clash between two teams who have already secured their respective divisional titles and will be looking to add more silverware to their trophy cabinets.

Crawley Wasps recently wrapped up the FA WNL Division 1 South East title, where they have only lost one league match all season. Their tremendous form also saw them reach the fourth round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup, where they proved to be a stern test for Arsenal WFC.

In the league, the team have won 17 of 19 fixtures, scoring 83 goals and conceding just eight. They will be moving up to tier three of the women’s pyramid next season; the FA WNL Southern Premier.

Blackburn Rovers Ladies meanwhile have been one of the most successful teams of the FA WNL in recent seasons, and head into this match looking to retain their League Cup crown. They recently secured the title in the FA WNL Northern Premier with five games to spare, and have also reached the Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup Final. In the league they need just three more goals to pass their century for the season, having been on red hot form throughout 2018/19.

FA Women’s National League Chairman Carol West is already looking forward to a hugely entertaining clash in Burton.

She said: “We’re delighted to be heading to Burton Albion FC for this massively exciting final. The FA Women’s National League Cup Final is a huge event for the FA WNL and I know that both Crawley Wasps and Blackburn Rovers will more than do the match justice on the day.

“Both clubs are worthy finalists after immensely successful campaigns and I’m sure both will be determined to lift the Cup.”

Burton Albion Commercial Director Fleur Robinson told of her honour at the game being played at the Pirelli Stadium.

She said: “We are delighted that the Pirelli Stadium has been chosen to host the FA Women’s National League Cup Final.

“Everyone at Burton Albion Football Club is excited to be able to showcase the women’s game at our stadium by hosting this prestigious match.

“We are looking forward to welcoming supporters from near and far and will be working with the FA to make sure this is a great occasion for everyone to enjoy.”

The game kicks off at 2pm on Sunday 28 April, with the ground opening from 1pm.

Tickets are priced at £5 adults (which includes a match programme), £2.50 for concessions and £1 for children (under-3s are free).
