At walking football sessions, the rules remain the same as the regular version, except for the walking pace instead of running. The relaxed and light-hearted atmosphere creates a fun environment where players of all ages and abilities can come together. It's no wonder that walking football has seen a significant increase in popularity, attracting a diverse range of players from their 50s all the way up to their 80s.

One of the remarkable aspects of walking football is how it brings older players back to a sport they once loved. Many participants have expressed their gratitude for being able to kick a football again and relive the camaraderie of being part of a team.

How to get involved

To support the ongoing development of Walking Football, we have put together a Walking Football toolkit which is aimed at individuals, organisations, groups and clubs who may wish to set up and deliver a Walking Football session, or to support existing Walking Football sessions to grow. The FA have developed the resource in partnership with Age UK, County FA’s and established Walking Football groups and it’s the first stage in a series of developments that will further support the growth of Walking Football.
