Sporting Khalsa - 3 v 1 - Lichfield City

Monday evening saw West Midlands (Regional) League Champions, Sporting Khalsa FC, defeat fellow Step 6 side Lichfield City 3-1 at Marston Road.

In an exciting game of football, it was the Midland Football League side, Lichfield City, who broke the deadlock thanks to a Mark Rose goal on 17 minutes. Sporting Khalsa battled hard and were rewarded on 35 minutes where Craig Bannister fired home to level the scores before half time.

Half Time: 1-1

The teams both came out fired up for what promised to be an enthralling second half, and the football certainly did not fail to disappoint the large crowd in attendance at Stafford Rangers’ Marston Road ground.

The teams battled hard for nearly 30 minutes to take the advantage, but in the end it was Craig Bannister who added a second for his side on 74 minutes.

Lichfield City pushed hard for an equaliser for the remainder of the game, however they were punished right at the last when Craig Bannister completed his hat-trick on 88 minutes with a stunning strike that secured a double winning season for the Noose Lane based side.

Full Time: 3-1

We would like to extend our grateful thanks to our hosts for holding such an exciting final, all the spectators for their attendance and to the teams who gave a memorable final worthy of the competition.
