Introduction to First Aid in Football is an online course suitable for anyone looking to develop their knowledge and understanding of medical care for players of all ages.

Medical emergencies in football can strike at any time. From common injuries to life-threatening situations such as sudden cardiac arrest, understanding basic first aid can help save lives. The FA is pleased to offer this football first aid course for you to complete at your own pace. 

Throughout this course, you will work through online modules and learn to be able to respond quickly should a medical emergency arise, as well as gaining the confidence to handle situations the right way. 

Once you have completed Introduction to First Aid in Football, you will be awarded a certificate that will be valid for three years. You will also be able to return to the course at any time to refresh your knowledge. 

Please note that Introduction to First Aid in Football is available as a module within Introduction to Coaching Football. If you have completed Introduction to Coaching Football, you do not need to complete Introduction to First Aid in Football twice.

Here's how the course works:

Introducing First Aid in Football is split into six online learning modules. Each module has some knowledge checks built-in, as well as a short final assessment to check your understanding. You will need to complete each module before unlocking the next. 


Module 1: Introduction 

Module 2: The A-E Approach 

Module 3: Delivering CPR 

Module 4: Medical Emergencies 

Module 5: Concussion in Football 

Module 6: Assessment 

Alongside the online learning modules, you will be given checklists, manuals, videos and more to help support you throughout the course. You can use these resources as you work through the course, and in your own time.

Course Prerequisites

This course is perfect for anyone looking to develop their knowledge and understanding of first aid in football, including coaches, managers, parents, volunteers and teachers.

Outcomes

This course will help you to:

Understand The FA concussion guidelines and appropriate first aid for players with head injuries.
Know when a player is experiencing difficulty breathing.
Know the signs and symptoms of life-threatening conditions and potential first aid initial management.
 Recognise an injury or ill player.
Perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) while being COVID-19 safe.

Cancellation

Unfortunately due to an increasing number of candidates cancelling at late notice, it is with regret that we have had to make changes to our booking policy. Therefore the ‘Association’ has introduced a strict cancellation and transfer policy. Should a Learner need to cancel their place on a course for any reason, the following criteria will apply:

  • More than 21 days notice – Full refund less a £10 administration charge.
  • 20 - 14 days notice – 50% of course cost returned or transfer available for a surcharge of £10
  • 13 days or less notice – No refund is returned

Consideration will be given to candidates who, for health reasons are unable to attend and require a transfer to another course. A letter from a doctor or medical professional may be requested.

Alternative First Aid Qualifications

The FA will accept a selected number of First Aid courses as qualifications which are alternative to having to complete the FA Introduction to First Aid In Football or FA Emergency First Aid in Football courses.

These will only be accepted at the re-certification stage, however. ALL coaches/volunteers will need to complete an FA IbFAiF course as their first medical course.

Here are some answers to your frequently asked questions:

Unfortunately not. Each individual learner is required to book their place using their own FAN and Password. This is to ensure our information on medical conditions, emergency contacts etc is accurate and up to date. The booking agreement is always between Staffordshire FA and the individual learner.

No, learners are required to attend all dates and times associated to the course they have booked onto. Failure to attend all dates and times will result in non-qualification and individuals will need to book and pay to attend the course again in full to become certificated.

We are unable to reserve places or take part payments for any of our courses. Bookings are taken on a first come first served basis from online registration where full payment is required.

We do not operate a waiting list for any of our courses or notify individuals of new courses being added or spaces becoming available. Places are taken on a strict first come first served basis.

Upon completion of your FA Safeguarding Children Workshop or the FA Emergency Aid Workshop, you can print off your certificate by clicking HERE. FA Education administer all certificates for the standalone FA Emergency Aid and FA Safeguarding Children Workshops. Certificates usually take around 8 - 10 to be processed after the registers are updated following the course.
