The FA Skills programme have been working in Staffordshire since October 2008, The team of four coaches work with 5-11 year olds in school curriculum time, charter Standard clubs, after school skills centre sessions and other events across the county.

The FA Skills is a unique football coaching programme that gives 5-11s the opportunity to get active, learn new football skills and enjoy the game.

FA Skills is a nationwide initiative run by The Football Association and funded by Sport England. The team provide after-school football coaching, holiday football coaching we also work within primary schools providing specialist football coaching. Their aim is to develop better and more technically gifted football players but also to give every child the opportunity to be the best that they can be. 

The FA Skills is based on a unique FA coaching model that helps children of all abilities to grow, develop their skills and to reach their potential.  The FA four corner model encompasses four key attributes that are vital for any developing young footballer: Physical, Technical, Psychological and Social elements, helping children to develop more than just their football skills – the team will help them to gain confidence, build self-esteem, learn to work as team and improve their decision making.

Skills Coaching in Schools

A primary part of The FA Skills is to provide primary schools with specialist football coaching and support for teachers, working with over 1,200 schools each year.  The coaches will typically work with each primary school once every week for 10 weeks, providing specialist, age appropriate coaching which is in line with the National Curriculum and is entirely free of charge.

After School and Holiday Skills Coaching

The FA Skills provides weekly after school Skills Centres and free football coaching during the school holidays for boys and girls aged 5-11 years. They offer sessions that cater for all abilities and coaching is age appropriate and child-centred, helping every child to develop at their own pace.

Club Support Sessions

The FA Skills team support local Charter Standard clubs. Coaches work with club coaches to share ideas and to assist with the coaching delivery to the children.
