Staffordshire FA TB Williamson Cup Final

Knave 0 The New Talbot 7

Another sunny evening in Staffordshire for a final with Stone Dominoes hosting the TB Williamson Cup Final on a great looking playing surface at Wellbeing Park with Knave of the Potteries & District Sunday League taking on The New Talbot, a first year team from the Cannock Chase Football League.

In a fairly even opening there was little to choose between the sides although Knave were unable to test keeper Joe Williams in the Talbot goal and he dealt comfortably with each and every cross into the danger area from some good positions for Potteries side.

These wasted opportunities would come back to haunt them when Talbot, backed by the majority of the crowd inside Wellbeing Park, took the lead when Jamie Greatwich headed home from a deep corner just after half an hour.

Shortly before the interval Jay Holdcroft took advantage of a defensive miss-kick to fire home from 8 yards out and send Talbot into the break with a 2-0 lead.

The second half saw them turn the screw and put the tie to bed early on in the half with two goals in quick succession.

Liam Sandland fired home on the swivel from the edge of the box before Holdcroft scored his second of the night to put Talbot 4-0 ahead with more than 30 minutes of the game still to play.

Knave could not find a way back into the game with Holdcroft and Louie Mason causing them all sorts of problems at the back and it came as no surprise when Holdcroft claimed his hat-trick goal, taking the ball around the keeper and slotting home to make it 5-0.

Substitute Joe Hindley bagged a goal shortly after coming on, scoring from a tight angle to make it 6-0 before a fantastic move down the left saw Mason head home a great looking goal and, one he deserved, to complete the 7-0 scoreline.

Congratulations to The New Talbot on being crowned TB Williamson Cup champions for 2017/18 and thanks to all who came to support the final as well as to Stone for providing a fantastic playing surface for the occasion.
