WYRLEY JUNIORS FC CROWNED NATIONAL FA CHARTER STANDARD COMMUNITY CLUB OF THE YEAR

A Staffordshire County FA grassroots club will be heading to Wembley in August to collect a National FA Community Award.

Local grassroots club Wyrley Junoirs FC have been named FA Charter Standard Community Club of the Year! The club will be attending the National FA Community Awards ceremony, presented by McDonalds at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 6th August to collect their National Charter Standard Community Club of the Year Award prior to the start of the FA Community Shield between Arsenal and Chelsea, which promises to be a fantastic curtain raiser for what will be an exciting season.

The club was initially nominated for a county award at Staffordshire FA’s Community Awards ceremony which took place at Stoke City’s Bet365 Stadium in June. Since then, the clubs nomination has since been judged by panels at the national FA and Wyrley Juniors have won the treble by also being crowned Regional and National FA Charter Standard Community Club of the Year winners.

When asked about winning the award, Wyrley Juniors FC Club Chairman Keith Hardy said “The Club was surprised but delighted to hear that it had won the National award for the second time in 6 years. This is magnificent recognition for the 100+ volunteers within the club who give up their time for the young people of the area. The Club has an ethos of providing football for all and we have strived hard to increase our provision for disabled footballers, female footballers and the more mature footballers in the last 2 years.”

He added “we could not have achieved the award without the support of the Staffordshire FA, local schools, Parish Councils, businesses and many parents who answer our calls for help with enthusiasm.”

Staffordshire FA Chief Executive Officer, Adam Evans said “It is fantastic that Wyrley Juniors FC have won this prestigious National Award following on from their success in the North West Region last month. To be named National Charter Standard Community Club of the Year is a remarkable achievement considering the thousands of fantastic clubs across the whole country. This is the second time that Wyrley have won the National Award, a quite incredible achievement which is testament to all involved at the club. They continue to make great strides and their contribution to the local community is outstanding. The Staffordshire FA are extremely proud of their achievements.”

Keith Hardy, Club Chairman also added “the club is always looking to grow it's playing numbers - anyone interested in joining an ambitious club should contact me on 07836 202764.”
