Belt Road - 0 v 4 - Dr Johnson

Following the half time abandonment of the game at Rushall Olympic and the postponement of the match the week before at Walsall Wood, both sides were praying for a dry evening, and despite some teasing rain showers during the warm up, Mother Nature was kind on the third occasion and it became a pleasant evening at Walsall Wood’s ML Safety Stadium for the teams to contest for the trophy.

The game got off to a quick start when the referee pointed to the penalty spot for Dr Johnson after just 5 minutes following a foul in the penalty area, and it was Dexter Ravenhill who stepped up and gave the Lichfield & District League side an early advantage with a top corner finish.

The game was evenly poised throughout and both sides created good chances however could not deliver in the final third. The second goal of the match came when the referee again pointed to the spot for another Dr Johnson penalty, this time following a handball in the area. Dexter Ravenhill stepped up again, and despite the best efforts of Stuart France in the Belt Road goal, the Dr Johnson side took a 2-0 lead.

Dr Johnson then snatched another goal in the 42nd minute of the match through Jordan Hunt which gave them a 3-0 half time advantage. The teams battled hard throughout the second half, but it was the Dr Johnson side who managed to secure the last goal in the 85th minute through Josh Leaver.

The match rounded off a record breaking season for the Dr Johnson side who have played 42 games, remarkably winning all 42, and have picked up a league trophy and 6 cups along the way.

We would like to extend our thanks to Walsall Wood FC for our use of their excellent facilities and for all those in attendance that will surely have enjoyed an exciting game.
