COMMUNITY group has scooped £5,000 to stage futsal competitions

Moorlands Activities Group (MAG), based in Cheadle, will develop the indoor football tournaments at Cheadle Leisure Centre after receiving the grant from the Football Foundation.

Futsal involves playing football on a hard indoor surface, with tall, narrow goals and a smaller ball.
The aim of the sessions will be to ensure youngsters can get involved in doing something positive during the evenings.
MAG programme manager James Edwards said: "The funding received from the Football Foundation will ensure the young people can play futsal in a safe, controlled environment. It will help Cheadle's drive against anti-social behaviour."

Paul Thorogood, chief executive of the Football Foundation, said: "Sport is playing a central role in helping people to stay fit, strengthen communities and promote responsibility among young people.

"This new project in Cheadle is but one example of thousands across the country that the Football Foundation is supporting."

Money for the Football Foundation scheme comes from the Premier League, The FA and the Government.

The foundation has awarded 152 grants worth £9.2 million to grassroots projects in Staffordshire since its launch in 2000.
