Grant success funds Friday night futsal for youngsters in Cheadle

Cheadle youngsters are MAG for it – grant success funds Friday night futsal for youngsters in Cheadle, Staffordshire, were celebrating today following a £5,000 grant awarded by the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity.
The funding boost will allow the Moorlands Activities Group (MAG) to develop Friday night futsal competitions at Cheadle Leisure Centre. The aim of the sessions is to ensure youngsters are involved in positive activity on a Friday evening.
The site where the activity will take place has also benefited from a Football Foundation facilities grant towards developing a brand new third generation artificial grass pitch.
The Football Foundation is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing football as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in communities throughout the country. Funded by the Premier League, The Football Association and the Government, the Football Foundation is the nation’s largest sports charity with a £40m budget going straight into the heart of football.

Working with the Staffordshire County FA, the Football Foundation has awarded 152 grants worth £9.2m to grass roots projects in the region since it was launched in July 2000.

James Edwards, MAG Programme manager, said: “The funding received from the Football Foundation will ensure that the young people can play Futsal in a safe, controlled environment on a Friday evening that will help Cheadle’s drive against anti-social behaviour.”

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “We warmly congratulate the Moorlands Activities Group for their hard work and dedication in securing this award.

“Sport is playing a central role in helping people to stay fit, strengthen communities and promote responsibility amongst young people. This new project in Cheadle is but one example of thousands across the country that the Football Foundation is supporting with money provided by our funding partners – the Premier League, The FA and Government.”
